Cold Steel says the Long Hunter fixed blade knife is patterned after frontier designs. But from all appearances this seems to be a modern design that promises excellent “combat efficiency.” Its looks are a little unorthodox, maybe even kitchen-like… but form follows function. At just a mere 6.8 oz, the Long Hunter will give you a razor sharp, flat ground, wonderfully shiny 7″ long blade. That’s impressive reach and cut-ability at that weight. The handle does kind of suck, being made of slick polypropylene (you could cut it off and install something else) and it does not stick far enough out of the sheath for my liking. But the friction fit in the Cordura sheath is snug and the handle should be durable. This blade is amazing quick in hand as well…lightning actually quick thanks to its thankfully thin (but not too thin) 4116 Krupp steel blade and the light handle. Don’t expect any thumb ramp, quillons, or finger guards though… they weren’t used in the French and Indian war on this design I guess and they’re still absent today. But the modified drop point of the Long Hunter should slash, stab, and do kitchen-type tasks with competency. I say the Long Hunter on the large size for skinning game but it could serve there as well. Also in the vid, I show you one possible way to carry this nicely large blade concealed (obey local laws!). Given its amazingly low price ( at yourcornerstore.com!), this is an amazing and quality contribution to our lightweight fixed blade …
